Participatory community planning has become the foundation of much of our work.

nEAR NORthside QLA 2.0

The Near Northside Quality of Life Agreement (QLA), a comprehensive action plan to build a sustainable and healthy community in the Near Northside neighborhood of Houston, was completed in 2015. The QLA was created through a partnership between the Community Design Resource Center (CDRC) at the University of Houston and Avenue, a non-profit community development corporation, to address the needs of the predominantly Hispanic neighborhood.

Driven by the vision of stakeholders and partners, the neighborhood continues to move forward toward their shared vision developed in the QLA. The Near Northside effort illustrates that even neighborhoods without great influence or wealth have the capacity to acquire the voice and power to implement great change.
